About Us
Our Story
SpringLake was founded in Singapore in 2024 by three partners with complementary backgrounds across technology, quantitative finance, and capital markets.
The founding window was deliberate. The years surrounding 2024 brought a structural reset across global markets — geopolitical realignments redirected capital flows, the AI wave accelerated cross-sector repricing, and cross-market volatility entered a structurally elevated regime. Information density and nonlinear complexity rose in tandem, compressing the effective frontier of linear factor models while simultaneously creating unprecedented conditions for a new generation of deep learning-native quantitative infrastructure.
Two of the founders had previously co-built ventures across internet and fintech, developing a hands-on understanding of both the engineering limits of large-scale technical systems and the microstructure of financial markets. Their shared conviction: the representational capacity of deep learning over high-dimensional, nonlinear, cross-market time-series data remains systematically underdeployed in quantitative trading — a methodological gap and a structural opportunity. They chose to build from first principles, establishing Singapore as a global headquarters for its position as the leading Asia-Pacific nexus for financial and technology talent.
On the infrastructure side, SpringLake has built one of the rare self-owned thousand-GPU clusters in the financial industry, supporting large-scale reinforcement learning training and continuous strategy iteration, alongside a high-throughput ultra-low-latency inference stack enabling 24/7 real-time signal generation and execution coverage across global markets.
Philosophy
We believe market pricing efficiency is being continuously redefined by the compounding of data density and model capacity. We do not treat machine learning as an overlay on classical quant frameworks — it is the foundational infrastructure across research, risk, and execution. We hold equal respect for the irreducible uncertainty of markets: models are falsifiable hypotheses in permanent iteration, and out-of-sample discipline and risk constraints take precedence over any short-term performance impulse.
Offices
Headquartered in Singapore, with offices in Hong Kong and New York covering Asia-Pacific and North American trading sessions respectively. All three offices operate on a unified research infrastructure, maintaining methodological consistency and risk discipline globally.
Founding Team
Julian Lim
CEO
Chief Executive Officer
Julian holds a Master of Computing (Computer Science Specialisation) from the NUS School of Computing. A serial entrepreneur, he has co-founded and scaled multiple ventures across internet and fintech alongside his co-founder Marcus, building a track record spanning product, operations, and growth from zero to scale. At SpringLake, Julian leads overall strategy, business development, and investor relations.
Marcus Chan
CTO
Chief Technology Officer
Marcus holds a Master of Science (Mechanical Engineering) from the NUS College of Design and Engineering. A serial entrepreneur with deep cross-disciplinary engineering experience, he has co-built high-concurrency, large-scale technical systems across multiple ventures alongside Julian. At SpringLake, Marcus leads the architecture and development of the firm's research infrastructure, proprietary thousand-GPU compute cluster, and ultra-low-latency inference platform.
Astrid Larsen
CFO
Chief Financial Officer
Astrid brings extensive capital markets experience from a distinguished career at a leading international investment bank, where she served as Finance Director overseeing cross-border capital operations, financial compliance, and institutional client management. At SpringLake, she leads financial architecture, regulatory compliance, and institutional capital partnerships.
